WAVV - Requirement Submittal Form Requirement #: WV1997R004 Product: EXPLORE for VSE Vendor: CA Computer Associates (ex Legent, ex GOAL Title: Restore "Kiviat" variable recording and reporting (Brief one line which fully describes the requirement - including name of function or short product name) Statement of the Problem: (Describe in greater detail) "Kiviat" variables record CPU active, CPU wait, I/O active, I/O wait, and CPU-I/O overlap. This data allows determination of the effect of changes in CPU or I/O components on overall job (or job mix) elapsed time. This data was formerly available in early EXPLORE releases (over 10 years ago) and VSE/PT. Without this data, estimates of the effect on elapsed time are much less accurate. Justification for the change being requested: (Business case / benefits to Users and IBM which can justify the needed change) Providing this data would reduce uncertainty for customers planning upgrades, which directly translates into lower costs for their establishments, and adds value to EXPLORE for VSE Solution you would accept: (Note: A requested solution may limit a vendor’s response or ability to deliver a solution) Collect the required data and provide History Reporting and Job Reporting capabilities for this data. (Brief one line which fully describes the requirement - including name of function or short product name) Statement of the Problem: (Describe in greater detail) We currently run VSE/POWER in a 9MB private partition (VSE/ESA 1.3.6 soon 2.2.0) with a 7MB supervisor and 24-bit SVA/GETVIS area (no shared partitions). The supervisor and SVA/GETVIS areas may grow when we go to 2.2.0! Our DATA FILE is 252,225 tracks across several 3390s and the QUEUE FILE is 142 tracks (3390) or 27,230 queue entries. Our DBLK size is 8906 bytes. It was 10,796 bytes, but we had to make it smaller to free up storage in the VSE/POWER partition. We have 195 RJE/SNA, 75 RJE/BSC and 13 PNET connections and growing. Our QUEUE file hits 100% full during peak times of the month so we would like to increase the size of the QUEUE and DATA files. At month-end when there are additional POWER tasks, including most of our RJE users pulling reports at the same time, we frequently have POWER WAITING ON VIRTUAL STORAGE. We created a VSE just for these VSE/POWER transmissions. It shares the QUEUE and DATA files with the other production VSEs. Justification for the change being requested: (Business case / benefits to Users and IBM which can justify the needed change As our business grows so does our requirements on VSE facilities. We expend time and resources that could be used for the improvement of our product to overcome limitations. And each time we come up against a limitation of VSE, our management begins to think it is time to move to OS/390! Solution you would accept: (Note: A requested solution may limit a vendor’s response or ability to deliver a solution) Move the copy of the QUEUE File that is in the VSE/POWER 24-bit storage to 31-bit storage or a data space. Justification for the change being requested: (Business case / benefits to Users and IBM which can justify the needed change) Option would provide limitation of very large response sets when not necessary; useful as a governor for those without QMF, and as a tool for testing. Especially useful when only 1st row is really needed. Solution you would accept: (Note: A requested solution may limit a vendor’s response or ability to deliver a solution) WAVV Requirement Submittal Form Company Name: Prince Geo. Co. When GDDM is not otherwise required, it is a needless expense in terms of resources as well as dollars. It precludes use of QMF at some installations. Justification for the change being requested: (Business case / benefits to Users and IBM which can justify the needed change) QMF provides many desirable functions for DB2 VSE / VM which are not available otherwise. GDDM is required to run QMF, and it is very expensive in both resources and dollars. Elmination of requirement for GDDM would allow installations unable to afford QMF to acquire it, and would allow installations currently maintaining GDDM only for QMF to re-allocate the funds to more critical applications. Justification for the change being requested: (Business case / benefits to Users and IBM which can justify the needed change) A graphical monitor would provide better visual access to the data, enabling ‘eye catching’ notification of problem areas. It would make the tool more valuable to users.
